Augustus Gloop, Augustus Gloop, the great big greedy nincompoop

This afternoon I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Meridith, my dad, Caroline, and Emma Kate. I really enjoyed this new version. Don't get me wrong, I love the older one. Sure, Gene Wilder freaks me out near the end when he is yelling at Charlie and Uncle Joe for stealing Fizzy Lifting Drinks, but other things make up for that weirdness. ...the school teacher comes to mind. "Two? Whattya mean you only opened two?" I loved these new Oompa Loompas a lot more than the older version, also. I giggled steadily throughout all of their (his, haha) song & dance numbers.

The Tim Burton version is really interesting visually. Johnny's makeup, as well as the kid who played Augustus, was really interesting. I really like Johnny's, despite any and all comparisons to Michael Jackson I've heard. The Augustus kid had some cool shading techniques on his face...which only someone whose fondness for makeup tricks borders on nerdy, like me, would take note of.

Missi Pyle looks the same in every movie. I practically expected her to bust out some lines in Thermian. Same frightening expression, different hair color. (Galaxy Quest...for those who can't follow my random jumps.)

All in all, I'd pay full price to see it again. And I'd buy it. Highly entertaining. ("What do you use hair cream for?" "To lock in moisture." Hahaha!)
