However; yesterday a former member of our team, Jodi, called and asked if I had the closing information on a file Jayar did for her. I said I hadn't seen it and I'd check around for it and that I'd call her back. I found out that the main office had received the information and had given it to Julie. I called Julie and she confirmed she had it and she'd bring it over in a few minutes. K, great. I called Jodi back and let her know that yes, we did have it and that I would finish off her file for her and try to get it turned in by 5:00.
She called back about seven times about random things, including asking me how much the check was for because she hadn't seen the title company's breakdown. (Remember that, it's important later on.) I told her I didn't have the check yet, Julie had it, but when I got it I would let her know. I graciously called her back about four times to give her more random information she requested.
At one point she called again and asked how much her check was. I said I didn't have the file broken down yet, I had just found out I was missing a few things. I told Jodi I did not have the title company's breakdown sheet. I needed that, so she said she was already calling them about something else and she'd ask them to send it to me. Great. She even called about fifteen minutes later to let me know that they were about to fax it to me. K, wonderful. Time-3:50 p.m.
Jodi's file was NOT the only thing I was working on. I was sending an important email to over 8 thousand people before the end of the day, I had two files on my desk I had to find a phone number to track down and hound their title companies on information I hadn't yet received, and among other things I had another file on my desk that I had to break down--Jayar's, which always has higher priority--so I was more than a tad busy.
I got the missing information from title via fax and put it in the file. I found I was also missing some things from Julie. I called her about them and she said she'd get them ready for me. A bit later I got that information from her and added it to the file. K, great.
While doing other things I started the breakdown of Jodi's file. When I got to the point where I distribute the money I inputted the information I had. (The only thing I could do. Obviously.) After I got the information in I noticed I was totally not balancing. I checked everything over and over. I still didn't balance. I noticed I was missing $800 from the check! It was nearing 5:00, so I knew I didn't have much time to get it worked out. I searched for the number for the title company and finally got a hold of someone. I didn't know the name of the escrow officer I was looking for, so I tried to search it another way. I was sent to a different phone number, and by that time they were closed.
Dang.
I felt bad that I hadn't been able to get the file turned in for her by 5:00. Really, I did. I don't like screwing up or having people annoyed at the work I'm doing.
I called Jodi but only got her voicemail. I left her a message and apologized for not getting it in, and I let her know what was going on with her file and how I was still trying to figure out the $800 discrepancy.
Because I wanted to get that all figured out first thing this morning, I didn't go home after hitting the gym--instead I came straight to the office. I got stuck in traffic on the freeway, so I didn't get here until 7:45, but it was still early enough.
I had a message from Jodi on my voicemail, in it she said, "Yeah, the [title company's breakdown] is messed up, so you aren't missing the $800. This is why I faxed it to you at 3:50; so you could get things like this worked out in time."
What the?!
First-- NO. Second-- The reason you faxed it to me at 3:50 is because I told you I did not have it, and that is the time that they faxed it. Third-- You said you had not seen it. If you knew about the $800 discrepancy why in the crapola did you not tell me about it?!
I called her back. Hahaha. I am a very passive agressive person, to a fault. I really really didn't want to let her walk all over me, though. I wanted her to know how I felt. That is why I was very relieved when I got her voicemail, because there was no way in heck I could be snarky to her.
I said, "Hey Jodi, it's Susannah; again, I apologize I couldn't get your file in by 5 yesterday. But I can't break it down right now; where do I take the $800 from? Do I take it off the appraisal fee? Do I take it off the broker fee? I don't know what's going on here and you obviously do so call me and please let me know so I can get this thing done."
Ugh. Not even snarky enough, really. I was so absolutely shocked that she threw it on me like that. Oh, of course that is why you sent it to me. Duh. I should have known that. Come on! I can't do your files unless you give me all the information!!!!!!! You can't turn around and blame me for not having it!!! She absolutely lied to me.
The escrow officer called me and said she would fax me a corrected breakdown. (Thank goodness.) But I still can't break this stupid thing down yet because I'm STILL missing information. Ugh.
I asked Jayar if Jodi had called to complain about me yet. (I once walked in the room when she was telling Angela that I had no idea what I was doing. Oh my.) He said no and asked what happened. I hadn't realized I was so upset about it until I realized I was shaking when telling him. Competely shocked and annoyed.

UPDATE: Jodi just called and apologized. She said she was having a really bad day yesterday and even her fiance was shocked at her tone with me. She is now working with the escrow officer to get me all the information I require.
That's all I needed. I'm an easy-going person. I just needed her simple acknowledgement of being a complete jerk and her apology.
