Today I am going through and organizing my dad's journal entries (for money, not for fun). I am not mentioned very much, thanks a lot Dad. But I guess with 7 children and 9 grandchildren he has plenty to write about.
I found some funny mentions of me, though, and thought I would share them for everyones general amusement:
May 2001- In a letter to my older sister: "She is getting to be quite a hostess. She really seems to like that role. Good for her! Don't you think? (It doesn't hurt that her "James" was part of it. Know what I mean?
Have you seen him? So far, I saw him at our house once, but I'm not impressed with appearances. He seems like a mouse...but, hey...like I said, I don't know him yet. It does seems a bit consistent though...doesn't it? Susannah has liked little mousey guys in the past.
I wonder whom she will end up with?)"
June 1998- "We drove to the Arlington National Cemetery. Susannah refused to wear her shoes as we set out into the graveyard, and one of the guards kicked her out. This was unfortunate. She took the car keys and went back to sit in the van."
"I took Susannah back to the Natural History Museum. I let Susannah Follow her interests. She took me to see the “HOPE” Diamond, the exhibit of skeletons (of every possible specimen, from man to Gray Whale, to pocket mouse), then finally to the living insects exhibit. She stood and watched a scorpion catch a bug, sting it, and manipulate it till it died. Susannah is very patient. It took several minutes. It’s fascinating for me to watch Suz choose things to investigate. She came here today intentionally to see “the bugs”."
MY FAVORITE ONE
January 2000- "Susannah bought a pair of black satin shoes with four inch heels yesterday...because, she said, “how could I pass them by? They were marked down to only five bucks.” So she walked with me in the mall and all over Costco wearing those silly high heels. They make her stand about 6’2”; way over me. She is just so determined that those shoes make a cool fashion statement that she won’t have it any other way. I lovingly told her that they make her a “monster”. After once around the mall (about a mile) she took them off and carried them for half a mile. It is just too much. I think her behavior is typical of a fifteen-year-old. She’ll get much more mellow as her feet begin to hurt." (Yeah right. 4 1/2 years later I'm still doing the same blasted thing!)
